At 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, the temperature at DFW Airport reached 103 degrees. Meteorologist Jeff Ray will provide an update if the temperature increases by another degree before the day ends. Keep a lookout for further updates.

The scorching heat has hit Breckenridge with temperatures soaring up to 107 degrees, while Hillsboro has witnessed heat index values reaching as high as 112 degrees. As a result, our weather alert for the day remains warranted and will continue until 8 p.m. Stay safe and stay hydrated during this intense heat wave.

Overnight, a cold front is set to move into North Texas which will provide us with a short respite from the scorching triple-digit temperatures. This front will also usher in a chance of rainfall on Friday and Saturday for North Texas.

Expect some scattered showers and the possibility of thunderstorms during the late-night hours. The timeframe for this weather event would be from 11 p.m. to midnight until 4 a.m.

There are no expected showers during the Friday morning commute.

As we head into the weekend, the frontal boundary is expected to stall to the south, bringing more favorable conditions for rain in central Texas. While heat advisories will still be in effect, temperatures in North Texas will be slightly cooler, with a northerly breeze and isolated showers. Expect partly cloudy skies with highs in the 90s.

There’s a possibility of rain, even though it won’t be a significant amount.

The weekend is expected to have temperatures that will remain below 100 degrees. Although, it is possible for heat index values to reach the low 100s, we can expect to stay below the heat advisory criteria, at least for the weekend.

Next week, we can expect the return of the heat dome, which will result in predominantly sunny weather conditions and temperatures soaring into the triple digits.
