Chicago police say they’ve identified the man responsible for a shooting at the White Palace Grill in the South Loop last summer. Delegates to the Democratic National Convention were inside the all-night diner when the shooting occurred early on August 23.

According to police, a 42-year-old man was leaving the restaurant at 1159 South Canal when he was shot in the back, both arms, and hand by a man dressed as a security guard.

Within days of the shooting, the CPD released security images of the suspected gunman and the silver Ford Focus he was driving.

Police have now identified the shooter as 31-year-old Delvin Bryant. However, prosecutors did not charge Bryant with any shootings. Instead, he faces charges of being a repeat offender in possession of a handgun.

We’ll learn more about the case details after Bryant appears in court. However, the lack of indictments shows that prosecutors feel he had a legitimate reason for shooting his weapon.
