Marshall Garrett, 38, was arrested after his three dogs mauled his 65-year-old neighbor to death. Garrett is no stranger to encounters with the law. He is also facing an unrelated murder charge.

Last Tuesday, authorities charged Garrett with three counts of dog attack resulting in death. On March 23rd, the day of the tragic attack, Garrett received information that his three Staffordshire mix dogs were loose.

The dogs assaulted Harriette Phillip, 65, when they burst through her fence. According to records, the woman cried for aid and attempted to fend off the aggressive dogs with a hammer. Unfortunately, Phillips died as a result of his injuries.

Hours before the horrible incident, a neighbor informed Garrett that his dogs were digging in Phillips’ yard, to which he replied, “Oh Lord, I’m about to get it resolved.”

After the attack, all three canines were euthanized.

Garrett was released from jail on a $250,000 bond for avoiding police and is a co-defendant in an October 2024 murder case with Latrecia Washington. According to police, he and Latrecia got into a dispute with Alton Martin, 69, about $140. The two allegedly assaulted Martin outside a Houston business. Martin died from his injuries.

I’m a big animal lover, and I’d like to urge my readers to be furious at the people who rear vicious dogs, not the dogs. The accident was a preventable tragedy.

May Harriette Phillips rest in peace.
