At 4:40 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, a Connecticut State Police trooper assigned to Troop D in Danielson was conducting speed enforcement on I-395 southbound near Thompson exit 50.

The patrol officer “observed a vehicle traveling southbound toward his location at a rate of speed clearly higher than the posted speed limit,” according to officers.

According to police, the trooper used his designated laser device to see the car driving at 99 mph in a posted 65 mph zone right before it passed him.

The trooper moved away from his stationary position along the shoulder to try to stop the spotted vehicle before catching up with it around Exit 45 in Putnam, where there is an active construction pattern.

Once clear of the work zone, the trooper noticed that the operator resumed accelerating, reaching speeds of up to 115 mph, according to authorities.

When the trooper activated his emergency lights and siren, the operator pulled over to the shoulder near Exit 41 in Killingly.

The operator turned out to be 19-year-old Amanda Dias-Reis of Framingham, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.

When police asked Dias-Reis why she was driving so quickly, she stated she was going to see a friend and didn’t have any other answer.

We detained Dias-Reis without incident and took him to Troop D for processing.

Dias-Reis was charged with careless driving and was freed on a $500 bond. The court has scheduled her appearance for Tuesday, August 20.
