Early Tuesday morning, a residence in New York state was hit by a tractor-trailer when the driver fell asleep behind the wheel. According to officials, the semi first collided with a parked vehicle on the street before crashing into the house. Police have reported the incident as a case of driver fatigue.

According to WHEC, the crash occurred while four individuals were present inside the house.

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee reported in 2017 that New York state witnessed 2,337 police-reported personal injury and fatal crashes due to “fatigue or drowsy driving” or when the “driver fell asleep.”

According to a press release from The New York Sate Police, they received a report of a collision between a tractor trailer and a house in Oakfield village just before 1:30 AM on Tuesday. Troopers were dispatched to the scene immediately.

According to State Police, an investigation revealed that a parked vehicle and an occupied residence were hit by a 2012 Western Star tractor trailer traveling towards the west. The driver, identified as a 61-year-old man from North Tonawanda, had fallen asleep while driving the truck.

According to State Police, the truck driver received medical attention for injuries that were not life-threatening. In addition, the driver was also issued tickets, as stated by State Police.

According to WHEC, the home that was struck had four occupants at the time, but fortunately, none of them sustained any injuries. Troopers have stated that the family members were all residing in upstate New York when the accident occurred, which likely played a significant role in preventing any harm.
