HOUSTON — The family of a Houston woman who was brutally beaten to death is worried her accused killer might be released from jail after a judge didn’t deny his bond.
Myron Strambler, 36, appeared in court Monday morning, where a judge increased his bond from $250,000 to $300,000.
Strambler faces a murder charge in the death of his estranged wife, 34-year-old Alicia Michele Strambler, just days before her birthday. Police found her body in a room at the Moonlight Inn Motel in north Houston on November 27.
“He took her with his bare hands like a monster. He doesn’t deserve bond,” said the victim’s sister, Monique San Miguel. “He walked into that courtroom with no remorse for what he did.”
Alicia’s family shared that she had tried to escape Strambler many times and had filed for divorce just a week before her death.
“I have all the texts. He wouldn’t leave her alone. She tried over and over again, and he just wouldn’t let her go,” said Alicia’s sister, Anna Gonzales. “She didn’t deserve this, and her kids didn’t deserve this—they’re now without a mother.”
Anna also highlighted Alicia’s dedication to supporting other abused women.
“She had a huge heart. She did everything she could to help others who were going through the same thing she was,” Anna said.
The family believes the justice system failed Alicia and they are committed to ensuring she gets justice.
Court records show Strambler’s history of violence, including a 2021 domestic violence case involving Alicia. In 2022, he was accused of violating a protection order, but that case was dismissed. He was also convicted of sexually assaulting a child in 2009 in Brazoria County.
Now, Alicia’s family is concerned about what will happen if Strambler is released from jail.
“There’s no stopping him. If he gets out, it will happen again, just like before. That’s why we’re here today,” Anna said.
Over the weekend, dozens of people attended a candlelight vigil to honor Alicia’s memory. Her friends and family have set up a GoFundMe to support her three children.
