Missouri and Illinois Advised to Prepare for Frigid Temperatures by NWS

Temperatures in Missouri and Illinois are expected to take a wintry turn as we enter the new year. The National Weather Service predicts a rapid drop in temperatures in both states, signaling the arrival of winter right after the start of 2025.

I stumbled upon a recent update from the National Weather Service office in Illinois that caught my attention. It highlighted a concerning trend regarding the unusually warm temperatures we have been experiencing towards the end of 2024 and the projected forecasts for early 2025 as indicated by computer models.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, Missouri, it appears that colder temperatures are on their way.

There is some good news for the remainder of 2025 as the bitter cold is not expected to make a return. The temperatures are predicted to stay in the 50’s for the upcoming weekend. However, it is worth noting that there is a chance of a wintry system affecting Missouri and Illinois as early as the first weekend in January. It is too early to provide specific details, but the weekend of January 6, 2025 is looking interesting for potential snowfall in Missouri and Illinois.

As we approach early January, I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to share my observations with you. However, I must exercise caution and wait until we are closer to those dates. The models used to predict weather patterns can sometimes be unreliable, and I want to ensure that the information I provide is as accurate as possible.

That being said, it is reasonable to expect a shift in weather patterns as we transition into the new year. The current almost Spring-like conditions that we are experiencing are unlikely to persist once the calendar flips to 2025. Instead, we can anticipate a noticeable drop in temperatures, bringing about a much colder climate. Rest assured, if you are hoping for colder weather, you will not be disappointed.
