Texas Governor Greg Abbott expressed his condolences to the Carter family and offered his prayers to Rosalynn Carter, who passed away in 2023.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott expressed his condolences following the passing of former president Jimmy Carter, who died at the age of 100.

Abbott expressed his condolences to the late Rosalynn Carter, the former First Lady who passed away in 2023 at the Carter family home in Plains, Georgia.

In a statement released by Gov. Abbott’s office on Sunday, he expressed gratitude to Jimmy Carter for his service as the 39th president of the United States and offered prayers and condolences to the entire Carter family. However, there was a mistake in the statement where condolences were extended to Jimmy Carter’s late wife, whose service Carter himself attended on Nov. 29, 2023.

“We extend our prayers and heartfelt condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the entire Carter family,” Cecilia and I express in a statement.

Governor Abbott’s complete statement is as follows:

The loss of former President Jimmy Carter is a cause for mourning for Cecilia and me, as well as millions of Americans across the country. Our nation’s status as the greatest beacon of freedom and opportunity in the world is due to the steadfast leadership of our chief executives, who guide us through both the best and worst of times. We are forever grateful to President Carter for his service as the 39th President of the United States. His life was defined by selfless dedication to the American people, and he leaves behind a remarkable legacy as a husband, father, naval officer, governor, and Nobel prize winner. His absence will be deeply felt by many. During this difficult time, Cecilia and I offer our prayers and heartfelt condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the entire Carter family.
