US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended a Dominican national in Philadelphia who had previously been convicted and deported for drug trafficking, officials said Thursday.

Virginia Basora-Gonzalez, 36, was arrested on March 12 as part of a combined investigation including ICE, the US Marshals Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. After being deported in 2020, she reentered the United States without authorization.

Basora-Gonzalez was found guilty in 2020 of attempted possession with intent to distribute fentanyl as well as assisting and abetting. She was sentenced to slightly over a year in prison, followed by four years on supervised release. On October 6, 2020, ICE deported her to the Dominican Republic.

“This successful joint operation exemplifies the collaborative efforts of federal law enforcement agencies to enforce our nation’s immigration laws and remove dangerous individuals from our streets,” said ICE acting Field Office Director Brian McShane.

On March 12, ICE served a notice of intent to reinstate Basora-Gonzalez’s previous removal order and acquired a federal arrest warrant. She was turned over to the US Marshals Service and is currently in detention awaiting prosecution for illegal reentry.
