On Thursday night, several law enforcement officers stormed a sports bar in east Harris County in response to reports of human trafficking and prostitution.

Around 11 p.m., agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the FBI, Homeland Security, and the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission (TABC) were spotted at Frida’s Sports Bar on South McCarty near Clinton Drive by Buffalo Bayou.

A representative for the TABC, which is leading the investigation, told KPRC 2 that investigators were looking into claims of human trafficking and prostitution.

Officials said the raid was prompted by a terrible wrong-way incident on February 1st, as well as tips regarding human trafficking and prostitution at the establishment. The incident on the 610 and Ship Channel Bridge killed a driver and their passenger, while the lady in the car they collided with was charged with DWI.

“I turned over all the surveillance video from the day of the crash to investigators,” said the owner of Frida’s. “I don’t recall anyone being overserved. As for the prostitution, we’ve decided to implement a new policy that will require everyone inside to have purchased food or drinks if they want to sit inside.”

We’ve also learned that 25 prospective victims were interviewed during the operation. Despite the absence of arrests, we took several people into custody and transported them to an ICE facility in Conroe for further investigation.

Meanwhile, TABC officials are looking into possible administrative infractions at Frida’s. However, the bar’s owner is convinced that her facility has all necessary permissions and has properly complied with all regulations. “I’m confident we’ll find no violation at all,” she stated.

As the investigation continues, the community waits for answers while officials prioritize the protection of those affected. For now, Frida’s is still open, and the owner claims business will continue as usual.
