Now, one woman in Colorado has been found guilty of this felony after colliding with an Amazon truck and inflating the value of her vehicle. She faces numerous years in prison and other long-term consequences as a result of her crime.
Scamming your car insurance provider is not the best get-rich scheme
Car accidents constantly happen, and drivers require reliable car insurance providers to protect themselves. According to KKTV, Amanda Arneson, 32, was parked in her Chevrolet Silverado in 2021 when an Amazon delivery truck collided with it. According to the report, she was not in the vehicle. Fortunately, the Amazon truck was insured, and the business paid $18,610.34 for repairs and a temporary automobile.
The story continues, and we find that Amanda filed a “diminished value” claim with her car insurance company. After having it appraised, the firm intended to pay her an additional $12,755 for the vehicle. However, she turned greedy and produced a separate evaluation valuing the Chevy at $19,800. The finding triggered an investigation, and the insurance company discovered that the woman had manipulated the evaluation. Her independent appraiser had only evaluated the truck at $8,350, implying she attempted to swindle the corporation of more money.
Amanda later cashed the $12,755 payment from the car insurance company after discovering they would not pay her $19,000. Still, she had no idea they would turn over her amended paperwork to the authorities. A judge has found her guilty of two charges of insurance fraud, second-degree forgery, and attempted theft. The woman faces up to three years in prison, and her sentencing date is June 27th.
