A 77-year-old Indiana man allegedly called 911 after killing three individuals inside a home in Gibson County. While awaiting charges, police are investigating what exactly happened.

According to a search petition acquired by the Courier & Press, the incident occurred on Thursday night, May 28. According to the paper, Waite contacted 911 just moments after allegedly committing the triple murder, claiming that he “shot individuals at his residence.”

Gibson County deputies arrived at a Scottsdale Drive home at about 8:39 p.m. Waite greeted them and surrendered quickly. When they entered the residence, they discovered four deceased victims and one injured male.

According to the WFIE, a woman was located in the kitchen with a deadly gunshot wound to the head. They discovered a man in the main room, suffering from several gunshot wounds. Finally, the deputies discovered another woman in the living room, lying “upon a medical bed.” The event caused severe injuries to the fourth victim, a man.

Waite also allegedly pointed out where the deputies could find the Smith & Wesson handgun used in the incident. Deputies discovered it in the home’s garage.

Charges Pending

According to WFIE, four people were present at the house and witnessed the incident. Among them is a juvenile who claims to have witnessed Waite murder one of the victims.

The petition seeks to gather evidence at the property that will allow charges to be filed against Waite, as well as to learn more about what happened inside the home. According to WEVV, the petition was granted, but no charges have been brought against Waite.

“We’re gonna compile all of this information that we’re getting from the witnesses the evidence the autopsy,” Gibson County Sheriff Bruce Vanoven said, as per WFIE. “We’re going to compile a probable cause affidavit that we will present to the prosecutor for their review and then they will file charges.”

WFIE reports that autopsies will take place on Monday, June 2. Patrick Waite is now being held in the Gibson County Jail without bond. He’ll appear in court virtually on Monday.

“This was a tragedy,” Sheriff Vanoven continued. “Gibson County is suffering the loss of these deceased individuals, and we will come together as a community to heal.”

The victims’ identities have not been published.
