The DeSoto Police Department announced the arrest of Lewis Ray Harper Jr., 25, of Lancaster, Texas, who was wanted in connection with a 2020 murder in Dallas.
Harper was apprehended on February 27, 2025, after a thorough investigation by DeSoto Police Detectives, the department said today.
According to a press release from the DeSoto Police Department, detectives used advanced facial recognition software to identify Harper based on photographs obtained by police body cameras during a recent foot pursuit. After many days of tracking, detectives found Harper at a Lancaster motel and apprehended him without incident during a traffic stop near the DeSoto-Lancaster boundary.
Chief Costa praised the DeSoto Criminal Investigations Division for their outstanding work leading up to the arrest. The department asks residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious behavior, emphasizing the slogan, “If you see something, say something.”
